The Orchestra

The Wyvern Afinado Guitar Orchestra (WAGO) was formed in 2020 as a group of amateur guitarists who enjoy playing the classical guitar together.

Our programmes showcase the guitar in a range of formats including: solos, duets, quartets and the full WAGO ensemble, In some of our arrangements and performances WAGO use a range of non-standard guitars which can include : a Requinto (perfect 4th above a standard guitar tuning), a Quint/Alto (perfect 5th above), a Soprano (octave above), and a Contrabass (octave below). This mix of guitars offers more scale, tonal range, and colour, providing wider musical possibilities.

A Wyvern is the 2 legged dragon, a version of which is on the Somerset flag and ‘Afinado’ is a Spanish word meaning ‘in tune’ or ‘polished’.
